When attempting to switch or cycle between the profiles associated with their account, some Hulu users encounter the error "We encountered an error when switching profiles." This issue appears to be occurring on several different devices.
It turns out that some different factors could cause the appearance of this error code:
Conflicting Hulu account data currently saved on your browser is one of the most frequent causes of this error. If this is happening to you on a PC, you should be able to resolve the issue by using your preferred browser to launch the streaming service in Incognito Mode (Private Window).
In addition, if Hulu's servers discover that the Facebook account you're using to log in with your current account was previously used for another account, that will also result in this error. If this situation applies to you, you should be able to resolve the issue by deleting the connection between your old Hulu account and Facebook.
Hulu's server may stop streaming for your account if it is activated on several devices pinging from locations where Hulu is not officially supported. In this instance, you should be able to fix the issue by going to the Manage your Devices menu and deleting all superfluous devices.
It is also possible that the error you see results from limitations put in place by Hulu's support due to a violation of their TOS. Contacting Hulu's support staff is your only option in this situation to try to resolve the problem.
It turns out that opening the same service in Incognito Mode (in Google Chrome) or Private Mode (in Mozilla Firefox) is the standard procedure for the majority of impacted users who have begun experiencing the 'We encountered an error when switching profiles' error in Hulu.
Although many impacted users have successfully verified using this workaround, it is more of a workaround than a true fix.
To quickly resolve the issue, click your browser's action button and choose New Incognito Window from the context menu that appears.
Another known situation where the user may get the Hulu error "We encountered an error when switching profiles" is if they have an old Hulu account linked to the same Facebook account and are logged into Facebook via their browser (or at least a cookie is saved).
As soon as you reach the profile page on Hulu, this causes an account conflict that will forcefully de-log your account. This occurs due to Hulu's routine search for Facebook accounts, which leads it to discover accounts that aren't connected to the ones it was expecting.
The list of activated devices associated with your Hulu account might also be the source of this issue. When you go to the profile page, you may see the error "We encountered an error when switching profiles" if you have a lot of activated devices that you are no longer using or if some of your devices are pinging from a region where Hulu is not supported.
