Step 1: Go to the Skills section of August Smart Lock and enable skill.
Step 2: Now, link/login your August Smart Lock account in order to allow skills for your locks.
Step 3: If you want to turn on unlocking feature, set a desired pin code at the end of account linking process. In case you leave it empty, Alexa won't be able to unlock your door (this is the default).
Point to Note: Please make an important note that this PIN code is different from the PIN code installed on the August smart keypad
Step 4: Once you have connected the August Lock and Amazon Alexa account, you can now ask for commands like “August to unlock the front door” or “Check back door.”
Step 5: Remember, if Alexa listens to your commands incorrectly, at least three times to the wrong unlock, then you will have to relink the lock back to the Alexa account before it will unlock the door for you.
This is how you can Control August Door Lock with Amazon Alexa.
Step 1: Firstly, open the Alexa app and tap on the menu button shown in the top left corner of the screen.
Step 2: Next, select the “Smart Home” option from the app menu.
Step 3: Scroll down the screen and choose the Smart Lock you want to unlock with your voice via Alexa.
Step 4: Now, Tap the “Edit” option displayed in the top-right corner.
Step 5: Here, tap the “Unlock by voice” toggle switch which will enable the option.
Step 6: Finally, press “OK” button as you see a pop-up window is shown on the screen.
Step 7: Subsequently, you have to enter a custom four-digit voice code, which is the key data required to unlock your door with your voice commands. Enter the code twice in order to confirm.
Now, you will require to sign in to your Amazon account.
Step 8: Once you sign in, the feature will be enabled and the toggle switch will turn to blue. You are good to go now and control August Door Lock with Amazon Alexa. Now, what all you need to command is “Alexa, unlock the front door” (or whatever you have named your Smart Lock). Alexa will then ask for your voice code. Speak your code aloud, and your door will be unlocked.
