These instructions apply to all the Google Home speakers in your house which are connected to the same wireless network. This is especially important when you want to send messages from your iOS smartphone or Android phone.
For example, you wanna ask your children where the dog is sleeping, then you will first have to make a wake up call to your Google assistant by giving a command ‘Hey Google, broadcast”. Your virtual assistant will give you a response by asking you the message that you want to send.
After that, the message that you will give get recorded and will be played on every speaker, which is connected to the wireless network. It will repeat your message for a few seconds.
Your kids can give you a response by saying” OK Google, broadcast” from Google home speaker that is nearest to them. The broadcast can only be done by one person at a particular point of time. Hence it is more like a public address system instead of a 2-way intercom.
In case you are listening to a song or podcast on your Google home, then the song will mute when you will say, “Hey Google, Broadcast”. Not just this, if you are playing any music on any other speaker in your house, then that will also get stopped.
If you have downloaded a Google Assistant application on your smartphone, then you can use your phone to broadcast the messages on all the speakers in your house that are connected to Google account. For this purpose, you don't need to be connected to the wireless network.
You can also use Google Assistant to make announcements in the house or gather everybody in the hall. For example, you can say “Hey Google, broadcast the dinner is ready”. Then the assistant will make a bell sound to inform everybody that it’s time for dinner.
Canned announcements are great as by using them you don’t have to use your own voice to send a repeated message. You can do the same for lunch, wake up time, bedtime. All you have to do is to say, Hey Google, broadcast and then say the rest of the message.
