ADT Alarm Going Off for No Reason: Troubleshooting

ADT products are particularly designed to protect your family, property, and home. So, if you see a problem such as your alarm going off for n reason, then you must learn how to troubleshoot your system and get in touch with ADT for a service call.

Your ADT alarm may go off due to various reasons. Some of the reasons why it may go off are improperly placed sensors, problem with the motion detectors, low battery, reset requirements, smoke or heat detection malfunction. Below, we have mentioned different solutions that you can apply to fix the ADT alarm going off problem,

How to Troubleshoot the ADT Alarm Going Off Problem?

Here, we have listed different solutions that you can apply to fix the ADT alarm going off the problem.

1) Fix the ADT Sensor Low Battery Problem

ADT security plans will indicate the sensor that is low on battery. These sensors include heat, smoke, and carbon dioxide sensors, window sensors, garbage door sensors, rollerball door and two-piece sensors, and motion detectors.

When this happens, then you can stop chirping or beeping indicator by getting out of the zone where you see low battery indication. Once you get out of that zone temporarily, replace the battery and then reset the panel for reactivating the zone.

2) ADT Sensor Misalignment

The misalignment of window and door sensors is pretty common. This usually happens because of faulty installation or weather changes. The changing seasons can cause contraction and swelling of door and window frames. This will draw the sensors out of alignment.

Realigning or replacing the sensor can resolve your problem. The ADT tech can diagnose and address improper alignment of the sensors. You should also check the movement of the closed doors within your house. Open or close certain doors within your house.

This is going to create pressure zones, which may cause the doors to suck inwards and setting off the alarm. If you find that the doors are slightly loose within the frame, then it may create a consistent problem in your house. Until you resolve the issue, you must bypass the zone temporarily for false alarms or temporary sensor.

3) Motion Detector Issues

Motion detectors can be customized easily and you can only change their sensitivity level when the security system is installed professionally. With ADT Pulse and ADT command center, you can change the sensitivity levels through the ADT Pulse app or ADT Control app.

It is pet friendly, the sensors use motion and infrared technology to distinguish between pets and humans. These motion devices are quite effective and common mistakes can lead to false alarms.

4) ADT Security Camera Problems

If you are troubleshooting motion detectors, then you must also troubleshoot the security cameras. This can happen because they are similar in operation and what affects one can affect the other as well.

Fixing security camera issues is a lot easier because the external problems are visible. Sunlight effects, pets, flying bugs, air balloons, and loose paper can easily be detected. Rain, leaves, and swaying trees will trigger motion alerts.

This may accumulate moisture and dust, which can further cause a fault or false alert. Inspect the devices in a routine way, whenever the system runs a test. Also, you need to ensure that the system is in proper working order.

5) Heat Detector Malfunction

Your motion detectors can get severely impacted by heat changes. If you keep a wood burning stove close to these sensors, then the chances of false alarm increases. Even a small amount of heat can give a trip to your motion sensor.

Dust accumulation with heat sensors is pretty common and the ADT sensors are created in a manner where they can easily deal with such heat-related issues. Nevertheless, too much heat accumulation can affect the sensitivity level. When such a thing happens, you must clean the sensor. Also, you can call an ADT technician to reset the device.

6) ADT Garage Door Sensor Issues

Your Wi-Fi signal is the weakest at the garage door. Intermittent wireless signals can lead to false alarm. For this, you must search for a range extender that can extend the wireless signal to your garage.

Also, you must ensure that the sensor is placed with the least amount of brick, concrete, or metal. It works the way the window and door sensors do. It has a two-piece contact and metal setup, which is needed to remain 1/8th inch of the other.

7) Reset the ADT Pulse Gateway

Below are the steps that you are required to carry out in order to set up your ADT Pulse gateway.

Step 1: Disconnect the ethernet cable from the gateway.

Step 2: Then, disconnect the gateway from the power source and then follow the same procedure with your router.

Step 3: Wait for a while and then reconnect your router to the electrical outlet. Then, wait for it to boot and back up completely.

Step 4: Once your router gets reconnected to the internet, then you must power up your gateway.

Step 5: Once the gateway boots up, reconnect the ethernet wire.
