Alexa is Amazon's virtual assistant, which can collect sports scores, map routes, and perform a variety of other tasks. Although Amazon Alexa is most frequently used at home, there are many ways to install it in your vehicle as well.
There are six major ways to use Alexa in a vehicle, and each offers advantages and disadvantages. While a possibility, Amazon Echo Auto is merely the beginning.
The following are the six ways to get Amazon Alexa in your car:
Amazon Echo Auto: The easiest way to install Alexa in your car is using this method, especially if you've used other Echo devices before. In principle, the Amazon Echo Auto is an Echo or Dot that has been adapted for use in automotive applications. It makes use of the internet connection on your phone and calls for the installation of the Alexa app.
Original Equipment Infotainment Centers: Since Alexa is already integrated into the infotainment system, using it in a car in this way is the simplest solution. Even some cars come with built-in cellular data connections that Alexa may use. The issue is that you must purchase an Alexa-equipped vehicle in order to benefit from this approach.
Navigating with an Alexa-Enabled Device: Alexa functionality is available on some navigational devices, such as the Garmin Speak. Usually, they work like a Bluetooth speaker with a screen that shows driving instructions. These gadgets require you to download a proprietary program and rely on the cellular data connectivity of your phone.
Smart Speakers that Support Alexa: These Bluetooth speakers have Alexa capabilities already built in. They normally link to your phone to get cellular data or, if your car's sound system enables Bluetooth, to the Bluetooth-enabled sound system. Some require batteries, while others require a 12-volt outlet.
Use an Echo Dot: Use your existing Echo Dot as a test drive to see whether you even want Alexa in your car if you have one already. You're ready to go after you plug it into a 12V USB converter and link it to the Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone.
Using a Smartphone: Although it's the simplest option, this one is by no means the most complex. There is no hands-free option while using Alexa in your car, but you can just use the Alexa app to do so. You can ask your Google Assistant to access the Alexa app, but in order to speak with Alexa, you must actively hit the ring icon here on the Alexa app.
There are several cars with Alexa built right in if you're looking for a new car and you like the voice assistant. Alexa can be accessed through another interface that you are using for the radio, navigation, hands-free calling, and anything else, so there's no need to add any extra hardware.
This kind of Alexa integration has the advantage of being very user-friendly. Simply ask Alexa questions even if you're at home; there is really nothing further to purchase or set up. The disadvantage of this approach is that it isn't found in many cars, and it's unlikely that this will persuade numerous people to buy a car they wouldn't have otherwise been involved in.
The Alexa app alone, without any other devices, is the final way to use Alexa in a car. While giving you access to the data, this is less useful and less secure.
The problem is that although Alexa-enabled gadgets use your phone and need the Alexa app to function, you can do everything hands-free. Without an external device such as the Garmin Speak or even an Alexa-capable speaker like the Rova Viva, it is impossible to utilize the Alexa app hands-free.
