How do I Set up Alexa Guard?

Alexa Guard feature is a special feature recently introduced by Ring. This enables a user to connect an Amazon Echo speaker to the Ring alarm and detect different kinds of sounds such as glass breaking, carbon monoxide alarm and smoke alarm.

What is Alexa Guard Mode?

If you will put your Guard on the Away mode, then you will receive alerts from Alexa in the form of message alert notifications if your Amazon Echo speaker detects the sound of glass breaking, carbon Monoxide alarms and sound of smoke alarms.

Steps to Connect Ring Alarm to Alexa Guard:

The process to connect your Echo to Ring Alarm is quite easy. All you have to do is to carry out the steps given below. 

Step 1: The first thing that you need to do is to add Ring Alarm as a device in your Alexa application. 

Step 2: Select the Devices channel by selecting the icon that is given at the lower right hand corner. 

Step 3: Select the + sign that is given at the upper right corner for adding a new device

Step 4: Open the “Security system”

Step 5: Tap on “Ring”. 

Carry out the directions given in the app for adding your security system to Setup Guard and Alexa. 

How to Set up Alexa Guard Mode? 

The first thing that you need to do to set up Alexa Guard is to first launch Settings and then go to Guard. After that, you are required to carry out the directions given on the Alexa app. When the setup process gets completed, then you will be left with 3 ways to use the Alexa Guard. 

a) Use the Ring app. 

  • Once you set the Ring Alarm to Away, the Guard will be set to the same mode automatically. 
  • If you disarm your alarm, then also you will be able to set Alexa Guard to “Home mode”.

b) Turn on/off the Guard by using your voice

  • If you want to put Alexa Guard on the Away mode, then say, “Alexa, I’m leaving”. 
  • If you wish to put the Guard back to the Home mode, then say Alexa, “I’m Home”.

c) Use the Alexa app

  • Go to the screen of Guard history or Device channel. 
  • Tap on the button of “Home”

How does the Alexa Guard Work? 

When you put your Alexa Guard on the “Away Mode”. Alexa starts to detect the sounds like CO alarm, smoke alarm and glass breaking by using an inbuilt microphone. If one of the sounds that you selected gets detected, then you will receive a notification on your smartphone.

 

When you tap on this notification, the Alexa app will open up before you where you can do a few things which are listed below. 

  1. Listen to the audio clip of the sound detected
  2. Go top the Echo Device that gave you the alert. 
  3. View the Smart Alert received again. 
  4. Forward the alert to Ring by pressing the Send to Ring button given in your Alexa app to acquire any professional help. 

If you select the option of Send the Alert to Ring app, then you will be required to use the Standard Functions of Ring Alarm, which includes:
