How to Troubleshoot Ring Video Doorbell Issue?

One of the best home security options, the Ring Video Doorbell system provides a live view, motion detect feature at the front door of your home and office. You can record motion videos and activate a chime sound to know when somebody is at your door.

Like every other electronic device and gadget, the Ring doorbell also stops working sometimes. What issues cause it to stop working or respond in an improper way. This blog provides a complete step-by-step guide for helping you to troubleshoot Ring video doorbell issues.

Steps to Troubleshoot Ring Video Doorbell Issue:

Step 1: If you get a  message “Setup Didn’t Complete” on your mobile device screen, this means that the setup doesn’t complete successfully. Below this message, you will see four types of rings that indicate different issues with the Doorbell.

In order to troubleshoot Ring video doorbell issue, you have to check the direction in which the Ring of your device is flashing.

Step 2: If the top of the circle is flashing on your device, it means that the “Wi-Fi Password in entered incorrectly”. Try performing the Ring Video Doorbell Setup process again after confirming your Wi-Fi Password.

Step 3: If the right side of the circle is flashing, it means your Ring device is unable to connect to a Wi-Fi Network. Try repeating the same setup process again. Remember, Ring Doorbell Setup will be successful only when your device is close to the router but fails when you are far away.

Step 4: If the left side of the circle is flashing, the problem is with Internet connection. Try connecting another device to the same network you tried with Ring video doorbell. If it’s successful, then setup the Ring Video Doorbell process again.

If you are unable to connect new Ring device to your network, the issues are with the Wi-Fi connection. Contact your Internet connection provider to resolve encountered issues.

Step 5: If there is no flashing of light at the front of your device, repeat Ring Setup process. In case you are failing to complete the setup process then ensure these points:

  • Use correct WI-FI password
  • Position device close to the router
  • Perform “hard reset ring doorbell”

Ring Doorbell Not Connecting to Wi-Fi Network:

Here are the steps to troubleshoot Ring video doorbell issue due to Wifi network. Open Ring App and check the Wi-Fi network your device is connected.

If a Message Show "Unable to Connect to Network" is Shown Then Follow the Below Steps:

Step 1: Ensure that you are connecting Ring devices to a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network.

Note: Ring devices only work on 2.4Ghz except Ring Video Doorbell Pro.

Step 2: Press orange button (present at the back of the Ring device) for 30 seconds. This action will factory reset Ring doorbell and break down the thread of connectivity issues.

Step 3: Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is on channel 1-11, as Ring doesn’t support channel 12 or 13.

Note: If your Wi-Fi network is on 11-12, change it at 1-11. Ask your Wi-Fi network provider support team to perform this task.

Once the steps are completed, your Ring Doorbell will connect with your Wi-Fi network and you can continue the setup process.

Ring Video Doorbell Keeps Ringing:

Sometimes, your ring doorbell doesn’t stop ringing once the ring is pushed. The issue may cause when Ring doorbell button sticks down. Press and release the ring button to check whether it’s stuck or not. If not, ensure that the audio notifications are active on both Ring Doorbell and Ring App. If the problem persists, disconnect and replace the button of your device.

Ring Doorbell Video Not Working:

Though your Ring Video Doorbell is setup properly, you are unable to see the live video or motion. The possible reason may be that doorbell is running on battery power mode. Then, power Ring Doorbell using an internal battery or connect it via wire to your existing Ring doorbell wiring.

Ring Chime Setup Issue:

Are your facing issues with Ring Chime for your Ring Video Doorbell or the Ring Chime is not connecting to Wifi. In a way to troubleshoot ring video doorbell issue, check whether your Wifi is available or not. If yes, then login to your Wi-Fi router and configure the Wi-Fi settings for your doorbell device. Make sure that the WiFi channel for your Ring Chime should be lower than channel no 9.
