  • Tap your video doorbell on the home screen of Nest app.
  • Tap on the Settings icon.
  • Now here you will find various settings. You can change Nest Hello video doorbell settings as desired.

Procedure to Change Nest Hello Video Doorbell Settings:

Turn the Camera On and Off Automatically-

You can turn on and off the Nest Hello camera depending upon a variety of situations, somewhere necessary and might not be at other places. You can switch the camera on or off based on a couple of criteria.

  1. This is one way to turn the camera on or off based on your home availability. The phone’s geolocation feature checks whether you are at home or not and turns on/off the Nest camera. For this, you can enable “Home/Away Assist” option to turn the camera on when you leave your house and off when you get home.
  2. The second way is to turn your camera off at a fixed time schedule. Customize this control under “Schedule” in the settings for your Nest Hello.

Adjust the Video Quality-

The Nest Hello video doorbell consumes a lot of bandwidth and data. The video quality is obviously affected if your internet provider puts a cap on data usage limit.

To control this quality setting, tap the “Quality and Bandwidth” option in the Settings, and then moving the slider to the “Low” value. The video quality is set to "Medium" value. This means that Nest will use around 120 GB per month. However, the Low setting uses around 30 GB only.

Additionally, this setting helps you to save the data.

Customize Notifications-

The constant Nest notifications annoys you and therefore you have an option to choose the type of notification you will receive from your Nest Hello.

  • Under “Notifications” in the Settings menu, you can adjust the following things as:
  • Select the type of notifications you want to receive, either push notifications on your phone or simply email notifications.
  • Choose to get alerts only when you are not at home.
  • Customize the kind of alerts you want to receive in the first place, still picture alerts or general motion alerts or choose to receive both kinds of alerts. Like when there is a lot of false traffic on a busy street causing general motion alerts. So, you can disable the notifications in this case.

Additionally, you can choose whether or not to receive notifications when the camera detects a loud sound. To enable the sound feature, turn on the “Audio Recording” option so that you can receive these types of alerts as well.

Turn Off the Status Light-

You will see a small green LED status light at the above side of Nest Hello camera. When Nest captures a video, this LED setting is turned on.

This light is not a big deal but its useless actually. Considering that part, you should turn the light off by tapping the “Status Light” option in the Settings menu and ticking the toggle switch off.

Enable Audio Recording-

The Nest microphone is on in General cases. But audio recording is not. You can listen to the audio and view the live feed keeping the microphone enabled. When audio recordings are enabled, Nest Hello records audio along with video whenever it’s capturing something. Keeping it disabled, the Hello will record video only.

If you want to receive notifications upon detecting a loud sound, you can enable this setting. Hope you find this guide to change Nest Hello video doorbell settings useful.
